Terms
Effective July 2026
These terms govern your use of studio. By signing up or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't, that's fine — please don't use the service.
What studio is
studio is a social platform for artists. It provides a feed, profiles, direct messaging, commissions with deposits and escrow, and payouts via Stripe.
Your account
- You must provide a valid email and a unique handle to create an account.
- You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
- You must be at least 13 years old to use studio.
Your content
You own your work. When you upload art, text, or other content to studio:
- You keep full ownership and copyright.
- You grant us a limited license to display, host, and distribute your content as needed to operate the platform — for example, showing your portfolio to visitors and your posts to your followers.
- You can remove your content at any time. When you do, we remove it from studio, though cached copies may persist briefly.
Acceptable use
Use studio for what it's for — making and selling your work. Don't:
- Use studio for anything illegal.
- Try to access other users' accounts or data.
- Interfere with the platform's operation or security.
- Use studio to spam, harass, or deceive others.
Prohibited content
The following may never be posted, sold, tipped for, or monetized on studio in any form. This applies to posts, profiles, portfolios, subscription tiers, digital products, commissions, and direct messages:
- Adult content. Sexually explicit or pornographic material, and any sexualized depiction of minors. You may not use studio's tips, subscriptions, digital products, or commissions to sell, advertise, or accept payment for adult content, including adult content hosted somewhere else.
- Intellectual property infringement. Content you don't own or have the rights to share — including work traced, copied, or reposted from another artist, and unlicensed use of trademarks or copyrighted characters.
- Violent extremism and hate speech. Content that promotes, glorifies, or provides support for terrorism or violent extremism, and content that attacks, degrades, or incites hatred or violence against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, sexual orientation, sex, gender identity, disability, or serious disease.
- Other prohibited material. Credible threats of violence, content promoting self-harm, the sale of regulated or illegal goods, and content that violates Stripe's restricted businesses list.
Content that breaks these rules is removed and demonetized. Where the content was tied to a payment, we may reverse or withhold the associated payout.
Reporting violations
Anyone can report content that breaks these rules — you don't need a studio account.
- In the app. Every post, profile, comment, and message has a report option. Reports go to our moderation queue.
- By email. Anyone, including rights holders acting on their own behalf or through an agent, can email abuse@use.studio. For copyright claims, include the work at issue, the URL of the infringing content, and a statement that you hold the rights.
We review reports and act on them — typically within a few business days, and faster for reports involving minors, credible threats, or extremism. Actions include removing the content, demonetizing it, suspending the account, and terminating it. We tell the reporter what we decided, and we tell the affected creator what was removed and why.
Repeat violations
We track violations against the account that committed them. Our standard escalation is:
- First violation. The content is removed and demonetized, and the account gets a formal warning explaining which rule was broken.
- Second violation. The content is removed and the account loses monetization — tips, subscriptions, digital products, and new commissions are disabled — for 30 days.
- Third violation. The account is terminated and permanently banned from studio, and we may withhold pending payouts tied to the violating content.
Strikes stay on an account for 12 months. Severe violations — sexual content involving minors, credible threats of violence, terrorist or violent extremist content, or coordinated infringement — skip this ladder and result in immediate termination on the first offense, plus a report to law enforcement where the law requires it. We also act against accounts created to evade an existing ban.
If you think we got it wrong, reply to the enforcement email within 30 days and a different reviewer will look at it.
Commissions and payments
- Payments are processed through Stripe. By using commissions, you also accept Stripe's terms.
- Deposits are held in escrow at Stripe until commission terms are met.
- studio charges a flat 5% platform fee on completed commissions, plus standard Stripe processing fees. Both are disclosed before you accept any work.
- Cancellations and refunds follow the window you set when accepting a commission. Disputes between artists and collectors go through our resolution process.
Availability
We aim to keep studio running reliably, but we can't promise 100% uptime. We aren't liable for losses caused by downtime or service interruptions.
Liability
studio is provided "as is." To the fullest extent permitted by law:
- We're not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
- Our total liability is limited to the platform fees you've paid us in the 12 months before any claim.
Termination
You can stop using studio and close your account at any time. We may also suspend access if you break these terms. In either case, we'll make a reasonable effort to let you export your work first.
Changes
We may update these terms as studio evolves. We'll post the change here, update the effective date, and email you about anything material.
